Skills Tank’s central purpose is to help adults 16+ with learning disabilities/difficulties and behaviour that challenges mental health, brain injuries and autism.

We’ve learnt over the past 21 years that continuing fun, practical and varied education helps our students live happier, calmer and more enjoyable lives which in turn helps to reduce carers stress, improve the family environment and promote a healthier life.

Shiraz’s mother and family chose to show their gratitude by selecting a lovely ‘Thank You’ card. Will, our learning mentor, was choked and very proud.

What we do

Skills Tank’s central purpose is to help adults 16+ with learning disabilities/difficulties, autism, mental health, brain injuries and behaviour that challenges (and their carers) have happier, calmer and more fulfilled lives.

We do this through ongoing education and development that is built on our continually growing knowledge of each individual. Skills Tank’s education and development is delivered in bite sized chunks with the bias being on fun and enjoyment.

It’s very practical, there is no pressure to learn and progress is made at the individual’s pace as we like each and every individual to enjoy their time with us and to look forward to being with us. Carers often tell us the adult they care for has no trouble getting up in the morning and getting ready to come Skills Tank, unlike other days!

Norah Gallagher says:

I can’t begin to explain to you the difference in him. We couldn’t socialise, we couldn’t take him anywhere – he would run off. He would often be up in the night jumping on his bedroom floor. It was a nightmare. He wouldn’t mix with us as a family and had his own room downstairs.

Thanks to Skills Tank he is now much easier to manage. It used to take me half an hour just to get him from the house into the transport for college. Now he gets up with no problem and he can’t wait to get there. At home, he now sits with us most of the time and will watch TV. We can take him out for meals and we go out walking a lot.
