Children Affected By Domestic Abuse Helped By Cash Raising Fun Run
Every year the staff from Skills Tank and Care First Limited came together to raise money for a good cause, this year it was ‘The Kidsout Charity Colour Dash.’
The charity works with Rotary to raise money to take children, with their mums, who have suffered or had to flee domestic abuse, out for the day. A day away from it all, a day aimed at removing worries and restoring smiles.
It was an autumnal cold day with rain-filled gusts of wind at Drayton Manor Park.
The eight ladies from Care First and Skills Tank arrived in plenty of time, dressed in their running gear and clean bright white ‘Kidsout’ tops they headed for the check-in desk. All signed in, ready to go, and kitted out with 1 extra item-a bag of brightly coloured powder paint.
Time is called ‘5 minutes’ to start and all hell breaks out with runners everywhere ripping open their bags of powder and dispensing them into the damp windy air. You can see the outcome below:
And there was more colour to come, all along the 5k route, the spectators threw paint bags into the air raining more and more colour onto the runners.
What did the runners think, they loved it. “It was very messy great fun and time to be childlike,” said Maddy Wickens Skills Tank Learning Mentor.
Fun for the runners, lots of audience participation and very importantly money raised for this excellent cause. All in all, the 8 ladies raised £200 and that £200 will allow 8 children and their mums to escape on a fun happy day out.
Next year, a mud run!
