A New Haven Is Being Created…
A chance introduction led to a brief discussion which ignited an idea, an idea that fuelled a vision.
A New Haven Is Being Created To Bring Joy And Learning To Adults 16+ Who Have Moderate To Severe Learning Difficulties/Disabilities, Autism And Behavior That Challenges.
This vision is a new Skills Tank at Beacon Lodge on Barr Beacon. Yes, you could say it looks a little neglected, nestled in the trees, over taken by nature but with fabulous views in every direction. A lodge that’s been used by Walsall Council but now surplus to their requirements, it’s those words ‘surplus to requirements’ that instantly ignited an idea that fuelled a very exciting vision within our CEO.
Exciting. This word was chosen with great care so was ‘vision’. It’s not what is there now but what could be there and that excites staff at Skills Tank from CEO to learning assistants.
Imagine students of Skills Tank, adults 16+ who have moderate to severe learning difficulties/disabilities, autism, behavior that challenges, under the watchful help, guidance, and support of staff turning a lodge a little over run by nature into a relaxing haven.
The heightened sense of achievement, the yes, I helped create this haven feeling, the sheer wow factor you or I would get from scaling Everest – okay a little exaggeration but that’s needed to convey their magnitude of their feeling of success and achievement that may have been lacking in their world, so far.
A big undertaking that has created a big buzz.
Initially, there’s lots of clearing up to do, there’s a small pond to restore, a horticulture space to create, a viewing patio to spot the buzzards soaring and the kestrels hovering as well as spotting butterflies, finches, and robins.
And, that’s just the outside. Inside there will be classrooms for planning projects, learning about the surroundings, deciding what to grow and when as well as planning outings. A great place to be, a real haven bringing the peace that being out in nature brings.
You see, here at Skills Tank we don’t just talk about creating a brighter future for adults 16+ who have moderate to severe learning difficulties/disabilities, autism, behavior that challenges, we see how we can do it then do it.
